Golf Simulator & Sports Specific Training

Golf season is in full swing and, if you’re anything like me, you can use all the practice you can get.  Over the last few years, technology has evolved allowing golf enthusiasts to really dial in their game while having some fun doing so.  After all, golf really shouldn’t feel like work.

Several months ago, I noticed a facility in Natick under construction adjacent a well established driving range and have been watching carefully as it came to life.  This particular facility interested me because not only did they integrate sophisticated swing refinement technology but they also had the forethought to build a sports strengthening program alongside it.  Recognizing the importance of both the proper swing and the strength and stability necessary to execute it, this concept seemed right on point.

I took some time to talk with Oliver Segal, the Chief Operating Officer at Kohr Golf to better understand their approach.  Oliver shared “Over the years, it has been our passion to build the premier golf practice and instruction environment in MetroWest.”  Oliver continued “Our academy is focused on empowering elite junior and collegiate golfers to advance their game to the next level.”

Where the golf facility is concerned, state of the art simulators powered by TrackMan monitor every detail from swing mechanics to club speed to ball travel and distance.  The golf professionals leverage this tech driven information to provide guidance on how best to improve each aspect of the swing and, in real time, improvements can be seen and measured.  The sports specific strength training environment within the complex allows the golf professionals to communicate weaknesses to the trainers and strengthening programs can be developed to further improve results.

Kevin Bryan, Director of Strength and Conditioning at Kohr Golf said “The emphasis of our periodized training is to improve mobility, stability, strength and power.  Each training program is individually customized and measured to ensure the motor control that is gained in the gym is transferred to the practice range and ultimately out onto the course.”

While space is limited, Kohr Golf offers training camps throughout the summer as well as private and small group lessons for golfers of all ages and ability.  The integration of ground breaking technology both inside their new indoor facility as well as outside on the range appears to be a look into the future of golf instruction.

Beyond all of this, the Kohr team also created a social atmosphere where food and drinks can be enjoyed while watching golf or other sporting events in their comfortable lounge area.  Obviously, this concept isn’t new to golf but the inclusion of the social aspect of the facility provides a club feel making the facility a destination for individual practice, networking events, corporate team building activities and family outings.

Whether you’re looking to improve your game or just looking for something to do this weekend, Kohr Golf in Natick is an innovative facility for MetroWest residents to enjoy.
